Things Are Getting Busy

Monica seems to have loved her scuba class. She’s so excited about getting to dive next weekend. I’m looking forward to sitting out in the sun with some cold sodas, lots of snacks and a few good books.

Speaking of books, I just finished reading Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale. It was a bit disappointing. I attribute a lot of it to age. The last 50 years have seen some drastic changes to fiction as well as social attitudes. On one hand, it feels like it was really pushingb limits on what could be described, when those limits have drastically shifted since it was written. It also was extremely mysoginistic, even for James Bond. Also, there were no Bond toys. :(

In the last few weeks, I’ve already read William Gibson’s Neuromancer, which I personally felt was overrated, but I’m not too big on cyberpunk. While travelling to Pax River, I picked up Jonathan and Faye Kellerman’s Double Homicide, which is actually two short, unrelated stories in one book. Both of them were pretty good, and the Santa Fe story was factually accurate enough to bring back a lot of memories of my visits there. I also picked up Jonathan Kellermany’s Therapy, which was a very, very good book. Ah, the joys of business travel, I actually get to read.

Speaking of business travel, I leave Monday for Ft. Wayne. For the first time ever, I’m able to take Monica with me. She’s taking a couple days off and we’re driving out there. She’ll crash in the hotel and watch cable while I spent 16 hours in windowless conference rooms arguing with suppliers and contractors. Whee. I think she gets the better end of the deal, personally.

We get back next Wednesday and Thursday my parents come into town for a week. I’m really looking forward to visitng with them. Got a lot of places to go see and a lot of restaurants to eat at. Best of all, Saturday, we’re going to the Landmark Buffet for filet mignon and other good food. Mmmmm. Looking forward to seeing my family for the first time since Christmas too. ;-)
