Laid Up All Weekend
Last weekend started well. 8 of the fighters from our school went down to our sister school in Chesterfield, MO for some inter-school sparring practice. Had an absolute blast. Easily did some of my best fighting ever. We were supposed to fight for an hour, but ended up going for 2. Came home, took Monica out to a nice dinner at a new Mexican restaurant that still isn’t officially open. Very good food, none-the-less. By that point, my back was starting to get stiff.
When we got home, I went to work on replacing a fill valve on our toilet. The previous valve has a plastic screw that stripped out. It was in an awkward location and pretty soon, the pain in my back was rapidly spreading. By the time I was done with the job, I could hardly move. Sunday, it was no better. Barely got out of bed. Moved downstairs to watch the Rams game :(, which didn’t make the day go any better. To top it off, it hurt so much I didn’t get any sleep last night. Today it’s been doing better, off and on, but I got into the chiropractor’s office this afternoon and things are starting to feel better. Dammit, I hate back pain.
On the bright side, the time in bed gave me a chance to finish reading _Shadow Divers_. The book got better as it went. All in all, it was a very good read. Next up, A Farewell to Arms from Hemmingway. I’m ready for a tropical vacation right about now. Unfortunately, I won’t see any sandy beaches until Christmas. At least we’re going to Albuquerque in 19 days. Some vacation is better than no vacation, even if it lacks the beaches, sun, sand and crashing waves that make a Corona taste that much better. Even better, I’ll be taking my dive gear out to Albuquerque for a trip to my old stomping grounds in Santa Rosa’s Blue Hole.
