Job Interview
So I got a call yesterday morning looking for someone to join the test team for the F-15 trainers. They wanted to know if I could make it to a 12:30 interview. I said sure, no problem. Figured it wouldn’t hurt to see what else is out there.
The interview was supposed to be in building 101A. Bldg. 101 is about 100′ from where I sit, but I’d never been to 101A. Turns out, it’s a little outside annex that I have never been to. Oh well, I leave a half hour early, try walking outside rather than finding my way through the shop floor - only it’s pouring rain and half way there, the path is blocked by barb-wire fence. So I go in, walk through the shop and can’t find any way into 101A. Now, the shop floor is almost a square mile, so it’s not exactly a quick trip through it. I walk a little ways in, decide it’s easier to just walk thru the rain to my car and drive around the factory to the other side where the building is.
So I do that, still have 10 minutes to spare. There’s a sign on the other side of the shop that says 101A with an arrow pointing to the left. I go left. I park. 101A is nowhere to be seen. Just the other side of 101. I go in, still can’t find 101A, but I’m drenched from the rain by now. The shop guys give me dirty looks for squeaking through the building.
I want to call the interviewer, but he never gave me his phone number and I was so suprised at the short notice that I didn’t think to ask. At one point, I step out of 101 and I can see 101A, but there are no doors on that side of the building and I’m just getting soaked. So I continue searching for the bridge to 101A.
At 12:40, I decide to just return to my desk. I was already 10 minutes late, too wet to go into an interview anyway. I hoped the guy would call me and wonder where I was. He didn’t. I stayed until 3 and went home. I return today. No missed calls, no emails.
Hmmph.
