Welcome Back

It’s been about 6 months since I really wrote anything at this site. Things have been very, very busy until recently but I’d like to start keeping a journal again. The old AShapiro.net is gone, along with the last 3 years worth of posts (471 posts, I believe). I’m hoping this new format will be much easier to maintain. Besides, now that I’m not spending all my time at work writing, this should be a good creative outlet.

Since this is the first real post here, I guess I should say a little about myself for anyone who doesn’t know me and just happened to stumble across this site. I’m currently 24 years old, I’m a systems engineer at Boeing, I live in St. Peters, MO (a suburb of St. Louis). I have my bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering Technology and a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering with an emphasis on engineering management. Both degrees are from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. My family consists of a wife, Princess Mica, and two dogs, Macy and Poppy. You can find out more about me on the About page.

As for the last 6 months since I posted, here’s a brief recap of some of the highlights:

  • Our basement flooded in January. Our sump pump was disabled and we had 3 inches of water in the basement during a heavy rain. Had to replace the carpet, floorboards, furniture, and anything we had left on the floor at the time of the flood.
  • Rescued two retired racing greyhounds. We picked up Macy, a 4 year old brindle girl, in January and Poppy, a 3 year old black and white girl, in February. For now, our family is definitely complete. No more additions for a while. (Pictures)
  • Work took me to New York twice and Indiana once in the first quarter of the year. My recomendations: Stay away from them in the winter.
  • Took Mica out to Phoenix for a vacation in April (Pictures).
  • Fought in my first karate tournament; the St. Louis Silver Sun Showdown. I won the Men’s (18-34) Intermediate Lightweight division.
  • Completed a 53 mile round-trip bike ride between St. Charles, MO and Augusta, MO.
  • Made some new friends that will probably be showing up in later entries.

Tomorrow, we’re meeting my in-laws at the Arch for an early Father’s Day. I’ll be bringing the camera, so hopefully I’ll have a reason to figure out how to set up image galleries in WordPress.

See, just as I suspected, new colors! :) Coolness.

Unfortunately, my upcoming travels don’t seem destined to take me to your neck of the woods. Closest we may be is Olathe, KS. And I may not even be on the jaunt through parts east of the rockies anyways.

I’m afraid Kansas is a bit out of our way. However, we’re looking at flying into PHX sometime early October if you’re interested. Possibly might even have a spare bed at our condo for you. Mica won’t bitch if she gets a flight out of it ;-)

Depends on my school schedule. I’m supposed to be a grad student by then. But yeah, PHX is not a bad flight from here. And of course rides would be given.
