Father’s Day Eve: Downtown St. Louis
Mica and I went downtown this morning to meet her parents for an early Father’s Day celebration. We spent the morning walking around the Arch museum and the old courthouse building before taking them out to lunch at Charlie Gitto’s downtown. I had the best rigatoni carbonara. Took half of it home and had it for dinner.
Afterwards, Mica and I left downtown and headed for REI. That has got to be one of the coolest stores in the world. It’s a large two-story place with nothing but outdoors equipment; hiking, camping, biking, rock climbing, fishing, kayaking, trail running and backpacking. We picked out a few more items to take camping with us. This will be our first camping trip together, so it should be a learning experience (at the least). It will also be a fun time to spend playing with the dogs. We’re tentatively shooting for next weekend - weather permitting.
Speaking of the dogs, after we came home, Mica took a nap and then we headed out with the dogs to Petco. We picked up some body harnesses and cables to hold the dogs for when we’re camping. We also got them some Bio-Spot flea and tick preventative since we’ll be in the woods. Macy and Poppy picked out a toy while we were there. Macy waltzed right up to it, picked it up and started carrying it around. She eventually dropped it and Poppy picked it up and carried it for a while. They’re just like children - they have to get a toy every time they go to the store.
After Petco, we scooted off to Fritz’s for frozen custard. The dogs both got kiddie-cones and a ton of attention. We had at least 10 people come up to us to tell us how pretty the girls are and ask if we rescued them. A couple of people told us that they were very grateful to us for rescuing them rather than letting them be put down. That was one of our many reasons for picking greyhounds, but it’s still very nice to hear.
I leave you with some photos from today:
